Global Investment Research (GIR) Technology builds the software that enables the Global Investment Research team to perform fundamental analysis of individual companies, sectors and entire economies.
The group also supports the production of macroeconomic forecasts, reports on companies and industries, investment opinions on individual securities, strategic portfolio management recommendations and a wide range of data products for the firm's investing clients and the firm's own traders and salespeople.

Job Summary Responsibilities:

• Member of a nimble development team building out the Global Investment Research (GIR) strategic analytics platform
• Involved in the implementation of the following:
- Data models and calculation engines for different kinds of financial assets covered by Goldman Sachs Research (e.g. equity and fixed income securities, macro economic data)
- Frameworks to implement market-leading company valuation methodologies, such as GS SUSTAIN
- Frameworks for the distribution of data to internal and external clients
- Infrastructure for data quality and integrity checks
• While primarily working in SecDb and Slang (a proprietary object database and associated language), the developer will be involved with integration of SecDb with other systems in Java and .NET will be required
• While most work will be strategic in nature, developer may be required to do ad hoc business requests
• Perform Level 3 support

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience as a software developer
• Comfortable developing in both Windows and Unix/Linux environments
• Experience with OO design and development (in Java/C++/.NET)
• Familiar with relational databases and SQL
• Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English
• Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities, attention to detail and sense of ownership
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong communication skills
• Self-motivation and ability to learn quickly and independently is important
• Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:


• Foreign languages (Japanese, spoken/written a plus)
• Master’s degree or above
• Experience in Java and/or .NET (.NET preferred)
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Shell, Perl, VBS)
• Financial knowledge
