Test & Commissioning Engineer-Rail/Signaling/Transit Job in Washington 20001, District Of Columbia US
Principal Accountabilities:
- Perform systems test activities in factory and field environments utilizing your experience in the rail/signaling/transit industry. Will generally have contact with other engineers, customers, consultants and sub-contractors as required. May work independently and make sound decisions when necessary.
- Perform system test activities such as breakdown tests, operational and system tests. Occasionally will be required to work independently and with others. Tests must be conducted in compliance with company standards, project requirements and the appropriate company test procedures. Must maintain highest regard for safety, fail safeness, system reliability and system integrity.
- Identify operational and technical problems and assist in practical solutions and improvements to system design when appropriate. All identified problems and recommended solutions are to be brought to the attention of the Senior Engineer, Supervisor and/or Project Lead for further action.
- Interface with system/product designers, manufacturing personnel, customers, consultants and sub-contractors as needed.
- May be required to act as lead engineer in directing other test personnel.
- Assist in the installation and test of factory and field modifications. This may be performed on "live" circuits and on new or existing equipment.
- Assist in the installation and adjustment of various equipment (switch machine, trip stops, track circuits, code systems, etc).
- Accurately complete test documentation, data sheets, marking plans, expense reports, daily logs, lost time and discrepancy reports.
- Maintain location plans to reflect the "as installed or as tested" condition of locations under test.
Required Experience/Education:
Required Experience/Education:
- BSET (or related discipline), and a minimum one-year of related experience in the rail/signaling/transit industry. OR
- AAS in Electronic Technology (or related discipline) and 10+ years of related experience of which a minimum of 5 years must be in the rail/signaling/transit industry. OR
- High school Diploma and 12 years of related experience of which a minimum of 6 years must be in the rail/signaling/transit industry.
- Related experience is to include test equipment (VOMs, DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, frequency counters, etc) and trouble-shooting skills for problem identification and resolution.
- Ability to work at odd hours and/or extended shifts, with schedules and hours that change often. Working holidays and weekends is not uncommon. Must be able to work in a variety of work conditions that are not always desirable.
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office software.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong Safety awareness is essential.
- Working knowledge of signaling products and "vital" and "non-vital" circuit concepts
Preferred Experience
- Experienced in Signaling and testing Train Control systems.
- Strong working knowledge of track-side equipment and “vital” and “non-vital” circuit breakdown testing concepts.
- Experience in leading TC test teams in the execution of test procedures
