Tool and Die Maker/Machinist Job in Benton Harbor 49022, Michigan US

Description of Duties

 

Primary Duties:

Construct, modify, and repair a wide variety of tools, progressive dies, blank and pierce dies, cut-off dies, jigs, fixtures and other similar tooling utilized in the manufacturing process.   Fabricate parts from drawings, sketches or verbal instructions to perform fabrication or repair of parts utilized in the manufacturing process.  Coordinates and maintains operations within tool room.

 

Working Procedure:

Repair tooling using a variety of tool room machines and bench work requiring exacting setups to maintain close tolerances.   Work involves discussion with production and set up personnel, making necessary mathematical calculation and selecting allowances for spring pressures, lapping, grinding, fitting, and finishing, test new tooling.  Diagnose faulty operations and defective material and parts. 

 

Make or modify existing parts for production needs.  Required having knowledge and ability to select metals, materials, and heat-treating processes to obtain a quality part. 

 

Assist production and/or set up personnel in set ups or in troubleshooting production lines/equipment as

needed or directed, and performs production try outs on all new tooling and verify that samples

meets quality specifications.

 

Reviews engineering drawing modifications and product  detail with management and/or engineering personnel.

 

Maintains all tool room functions such as inventory and items to be stored.

 

General Responsibilities:

Work involves a variety of exacting machine and bench operations requiring skills and thorough knowledge of tool making practices, the use and interpretation of complex drawings; the making of correct decisions as to fits and finishes, machining and assembly sequences within the limits of standard practice and the maintaining of close tolerances of +-.0005 to produce acceptable parts.

Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.  Maintain work records and related data as necessary.

Perform all work in a safe manner and follow all prescribed company and tool room safety rules, practices and regulations.

Perform these and other related duties as assigned or directed.
