Transmission Line Engineer

engineering tasks associated with the design of medium to high-voltage electrical transmission lines. These tasks will include:
- route selection
- material specifying
- construction bid document preparation
- design/construction liaison
- installation
- Working with subcontractors, staff engineers and designers to perform engineering calculations and create design drawings. Examples of design drawings:
- Transmission line plan profile.
- Transmission structure analysis and detailed design.
- Transmission structure foundations.
- Transmission structure anchor details. Selecting and ordering transmission line material and/or equipment
- Providing weekly schedule updates to Project Managers
- Coordinating design issues with clients and vendors
- Participating in project team meetings and conference calls
- Reviewing and approving vendor submittals
- Providing engineering support during construction, testing and commissioning
Education/Experience
- BS in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
- 5-10 Years' Experience in the following areas: Aerial Transmission Line Layout (35 kV - 500 kV); Structural (Wood/Steel/Concrete Pole and/or Steel Lattice Tower) Design; Material selection and ordering
Computer Skills
- PLS-CADD (Transmission Line Design Software)
- PLS-POLE (Transmission Structure Design Software)
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- AutoCAD 2004 or later
- Microsoft Outlook
Other Requirements
- Good written and verbal communications skills;
- Self-motivation and independence;
- Capable of executing all transmission line tasks with minimal supervision;
- Ability to work well with other team members, clients, and outside consultants.
