Travel and Specialist Risk Underwriter

Full Job Description

Working closely with the Senior Travel Special Risks Underwriter to develop profitable Travel Special Risks Insurance business through technical assessment of both existing accounts and new business opportunities. To recommend suitable terms and to assist with the development of new and existing products as required. Monitoring performance of accounts through underwriting, ensuring that the business is of the required quality and corrective action taken where appropriate.

1. To recommend premium levels and terms to be applied to both new and renewal business in a logical, accurate and timely basis.

2. Responsibility for specific nominated travel and special risks accounts, involving accurate allocation of premium, credit control, monitoring performance, preparation of renewal recommendations through detailed data analysis and interpretation.

3. To be responsible for the preparation and drafting of both new and existing policy wordings, for both travel and special risks accounts.

4. Liaison with external scheme contacts, often at a senior level, either directly with the client or via a broker.

5. Attendance of external client meetings, on an unaccompanied basis where appropriate, for both scheme review meetings and new business opportunities.

6. To provide support in working with external medical screening providers To act as a referral point for medical screening queries from both external and internal customers, often at

- A sound understanding of underwriting principles and travel insurance is essential.

- Ability to interpret detailed policy wordings.

- ACII or progress towards desirable.

- Knowledge of the travel insurance market is preferred. Good negotiation skills.

- Logical and organised approach to work.

- Sound and well-reasoned problem solving skills.

- Confident decision making skills.

- Self-motivated and pro-active.

- Computer literate: Excel and Word.

- Ability to work as part of a small team and work effectively with both internal and external customers.

- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
