Responsibilities 

Provide support to the investment and institutional derivative portfolios through various reporting activities and responsibilities as follows:
Monitor current market conditions including Treasury and Agency MBS levels, swap spreads, current economic releases, major economic forecasts, and other elements affecting financial markets
Price securities in the Investment Portfolio on a periodic basis reviewing reasonableness of external pricing feeds and dealer inventory offerings.
Interface with Treasury Operations to verify accuracy of FAS-91 accretion/amortization
Provide required analysis, documentation, and reporting on hedge accounting (FAS133) and hedge effectiveness. Interface with Treasury Operations to verify accuracy of month end derivative pricing and effectiveness testing results
Provide backup support for the RMBS and CMBS Other than Temporary Impairment (“OTTI”) quarterly evaluation and stress testing activities
Assist in the preparation and development of management reports for the CFG Investment Portfolio and Derivatives portfolio

Project based analytical work in support of Balance Sheet Strategies group.
Provide Utilize Yield Book to quantify position level and portfolio total returns and return attribution. analytical support for security, sector selection.
Interface with Asset Liability Management group to ensure accurate and consistent modeling assumptions. Work on project based teams to enhance the accuracy of rate risk modeling efforts.
Support the institutional hedging portfolio manager with various analytical and reporting activities associated with (FAS133) hedge accounting requirements.
Represent Treasury and Balance Sheet Strategies (TBSS) group on various enhancement projects.
Assist in the preparation of asset valuation activities associated with FAS 107.

This position reports directly to the VP and Manager of the Treasury Portfolio Reporting and Analytics team. The incumbent provides analytical support, research inputs, and prepares management reports for the investment portfolios of CFG and its subsidiaries. The incumbent will need to be proficient in various vendor based analytical software programs required to measure, monitor and report on the interest rate and credit risks inherent in the securities and derivative hedging portfolios. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in the preparation of various materials/analyses for distribution to ALCO, Finance, Regulatory Reporting and RBS. 

Qualifications 

MBA or MS in Finance or CFA required
In lieu of an MBA, 5-7 years experience in analyzing or investing in MBS including agency and non-agency CMOs, passthroughs, and Hybrid ARMs. Understanding of bond market dynamics including sector analysis, relative value comparisons, impact of changes in volatility on security selection and performance. The incumbent should be familiar with fixed income theory like option-adjusted spread (OAS), negative convexity etc.
Understanding of prepayment models and security valuation models.
Familiarity with potential and actual impact of off-balance sheet transactions like interest rate derivatives.
Capacity to interact with Street research analysts (employed by Dealers and Brokers).
Knowledge of accounting principles and an ability to understand GL structures of banks. Familiarity with accounting systems like Essbase is a plus.
Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and time management skills.
Capacity to function in a fast paced environment and within inflexible time constraints.
Strong MS Excel / Access skills and comfortable with ‘Yield Book’, the fixed income analytics software. Additionally, PC and system dexterity including familiarity with PC hardware and knowledge of network functions is a plus.
Understanding of potential impact of political and economic events on financial markets, which involves closely following market developments with a special focus on economic outlook and fixed income markets (including mortgages). Economic outlook includes tracking and analyzing economic releases.
