We have immediate openings for Treatment Decision Support Nurses, who will serve as advocates for the member by activating them in the treatment decision process. This requires that the TDS Nurse understand where the member is in the change process and, meeting them where they are, then provide them with the information and tools to navigate the health care continuum. The TDS Nurse will use skills such as positive relationship building, effective written/verbal communication, ability to negotiate, effect change, and provide ongoing evaluation and critical analysis, and promote member/family autonomy. The TDS Nurse will adhere to ethical and regulatory standards.
Hours for this position are 1:30pm to 10pm Monday through Friday. Candidates must be willing to work the second shift.
The Treatment Decision Support Nurse will assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the outcomes to help support members with the following needs:
- What is their condition?
Provide evidence based education about the condition
Provide psychosocial and financial support based on the member's diagnosis, assessment of needs, and evaluation of treatment options already tried.
- What are their treatment options?
Provide evidence based education on the treatment options available for the member's condition
Discuss relevant decision points pertinent to an individual's situation
- Where should they receive treatment (facility) and who should provide treatment (provider/physician)?
Coordinate with member to determine severity of condition
Evaluate quality and efficacy indicators with the member
Monitor member's preferences and discuss advantages and disadvantages to situation
Provide information on where to find benefit/health coverage resources
- What should they expect if hospitalized?
Provide evidence based education
Support the member if they have chosen a treatment which requires hospitalization by informing them of LOS, risk reduction, post discharge care, and healthcare benefits that are helpful.

Qualifications:
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the state of Texas
- 3-5 years clinical experience in acute care setting or experience in physician office settings, or experience in outpatient settings with women's and/or men's health issues, musculoskeletal conditions or worker's compensation. Specifically looking for experience with the following conditions: low back pain, benign prostatic hypertrophy, obesity, knee and hip pain, cardiac, breast and/or prostate cancer, and hormone replacement therapy
- High degree of clinical knowledge with a diversified clinical background
- Telephonic case management/disease management experience a plus
- Comfort in supporting members in both inbound and outbound call interactions
- Excellent telephonic communication skills for rapidly and effectively building positive relationships
- Strong coaching ability to impart knowledge and skills to members
- Excellent customer service skills including a sense of urgency and ownership in resolving consumer issues
- Ability to effect change, be flexible and quickly react positively to change
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical analysis skills
- Ability to plan and organize with attention to details
- Understanding of current state and federal regulations on patient rights
- Understanding of HIPPA and confidentiality
- Reliable and dependable
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge ( Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer)
