UBS Accounting Control / Financial Accountant – Investment Banking recruitment

The Accounting Control (“AC”) is responsible for financial reporting, presentation, and disclosure integrity for various business areas. This is achieved through:
- Analytical review of the b/s, p/l and off b/s reporting including various disclosure requirements
- Verification of the application of accounting policies under multiple GAAPs
- On-going assessment of the Front to Back control environment as related to reporting
These activities are to support both monthly internal and quarterly external reporting cycles, in addition to other ad-hoc reporting as required. AC is further responsible for ensuring that the monthly Group Consolidation and Reporting System (“GCRS”) for their business area, meets all technical reporting requirements as defined by Corporate Centre.
The individual will support cross product environment within IB which broadly includes Equities, Fixed Income and FXMM businesses.
These businesses together transact in a diverse mix of underlying products and markets, which results in a dynamic and challenging reporting and control environment. Key clients for this role include Group Controlling Accounting, Regional Product Controller for each business, and the Location and Regional Controllers. Secondary client groups include Accounting Policy, Finance Change, Global Reporting Operational Risk and New Business.
The successful applicant will be an integral member of the AC team based in London, focusing on analysis and substantiation of financial information, including IB business division balance sheet and income statements and related notes and disclosures to support the close process and enable timely and accurate reporting of the IB business to Head Office in Zurich (for published financial statements).

Role Specifics

AC responsibilities of the role within the above framework will include:
• Substantiation of Balance sheet and income statement lines to support the IB business division close
• Co-ordination and delivery, including substantiation of the disclosures that contribute to the externally reported financial statements.
• Liaising with Corporate Centre over the IB disclosures
• Co-ordination and ongoing management of the reporting risk areas that need to be prioritised for remediation
• Taking ownership for and ensuring that key financial accounting and reporting controls in the area are effectively and efficiently carried out on a timely basis.
• Challenging existing close processes and controls and driving efficiencies in them.

Requirements

• Develop effective working relationships with line managers and colleagues in other parts of IB Finance
• Keep global and regional AC colleagues informed of developments and issues; work collaboratively.
• Work with the Global product controlling team and beyond to promote improvements to systems and processes.
• Support product control, financial reporting team and Corporate Centre in delivering accurate financial statements on a timely basis.
• Identify and resolve issues in a timely fashion, referring more complex problems to manager.
• Work with “change the bank” resources to improve and streamline the reporting process.
• Work within month end reporting period to ensure financial results are finalised within the required timeframe.
• The role requires the ability to combine in-depth understanding of accounting policy and review of financial reporting.
