Underwriting Development Manager recruitment
Purpose of role:
Oversight of all new and renewing business proposals put forward by our distribution arms and coverholders to ensure adequacy of underwriting and achievement of target loss ratio and return on capital.
Develop new relationships with Brokers, Distributors and Coverholders to grow the business and achieve overall business plan.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Development, ownership and delivery of the annual sales and underwriting plan for the business
- Oversight of underwriting rating undertaken by coverholders in accordance with company policy and are targeted to deliver agreed loss ratios.
- Maintain close oversight and reporting on business performance, developing plans in conjunction with distribution arms and coverholders to address any areas of under performance
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Insurers, Distribution and Clients/Brokers, ensuring the business is well represented to source new business
- Presentation of new and renewal business opportunities to the Management Committee and Board
- Ensure all regulatory compliance requirements impacting the business written are met and appropriately evidenced
- Propose reinsurance requirements as necessary in line with stated risk appetite and reinsurance policies
- Ensure effective controls are in place across the business written to ensure adequate risk management, particularly in respect of slip and TOBA management
- Accountability for the maintenance and ongoing improvement of the operational processes
Technical skills required
- Strong background in underwriting with 5 years plus proven track record at senior management level in an underwriting role
- Experience dealing within a Schemes environment, Commercial lines, Agri sector and/or Motor classes of business
- ACII qualified and/or appropriate professional qualification
- Highly numerate with strong planning analytical skills
- Strong communication, influencing, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Understanding of process management to ensure the business is managed in the most accurate and efficient manner
