Unix/Linux System Administrator Job in London EC4V6RN, London UK

 

Mintel is currently looking for a Unix/Linux System Administrator to join our global infrastructure team. We are searching for an individual to take an active role in the UK System Administration team while collaborating with their global infrastructure peers. The global infrastructure team manages a Network distributed over 4 continents running about 800+ servers, the environment is a mix of FreeBSD, Linux and Windows.

Role Responsibilities:
 

·         Deploy, maintain, upgrade and retire systems and applications in accordance with established guidelines.

·         Troubleshooting of Applications, Systems and Network problems.

·         Perform configuration changes using the central configuration management system in accordance with Mintel’s best practices and guidelines, and document changes as required

·         Respond to requests raised by members of the IT Development and Support teams in a timely manner in accordance with the previously established Service Level Agreements

·         Continually monitor network and server status by checking daily alerts from monitoring systems to ensure all warnings are dealt with and to ensure all new systems are being monitored.

·         Attend weekly team meetings to discuss and prioritize tickets.

·         Availability at all times to meet the unexpected demands of a global infrastructure network and travel as necessary to Mintel Locations in USA and Asia.

Required Skills/Knowledge:
 

·         Applied knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems, Linux LPI Level 2 accreditation or RHCE certification or similar level of knowledge / experience

·         Familiarity with the commonly used services and protocols such as: LDAP, NFS, Apache, MySQL, Samba, BIND, Squid, etc.

·         Familiarity with Windows 2003 AD and enterprise user management is an advantage

·         Proficiency of wired and wireless networking including VLANs, Subnetting, TCP/IP as well as an excellent understanding of IPv4 networking principles

·         Shell scripting skills required : Bash / Perl / Python

·         Good written and verbal communication skills

Familiarity with any of the following technology would be Advantageous.
 

·         CFEngine or any other Centralized Configuration Management tool

·         FreeBSD experience

·         PF Firewall Management

·         Windows 2003+ AD

·         Google Apps for Businesses

·         Asterisk PBX / FreePBX / VoIP in General

·         Nagios and Cacti / Munin

·         Virtualization technology, especially FreeBSD Jail

·         LAMP Software Platform

·         Perl or Python scripting

·         Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)  and / or CCNA certification.

·         Bugzilla and RT ticketing systems

Successful Applicants will be asked to complete a remote online test in order to be shortlisted for a face to face interview.
