Merck is currently seeking a Summer Intern in Bioprocess Group as part of its Merck Research Laboratories. In this role, the candidate will assist in the research activities of high-priority biotechnology drug candidates. This position supports the development of cell culture medium for pre-clinical, clinical and commercial scales. The incumbent is expected to assist in the development and optimization of in-house basal and feed medium platform. Other responsibilities include screening of active components that could improve cell culture or protein expression, evaluating media in microbioreactor, shake flask, and bench scale bioreactors. The candidate will be involved in developing or implementing state-of-art technologies to facilitate medium and cell culture evaluation in high throughput formats. This is a paid 6 month co-operative assignment targeted to start in June 2012, whereby a weekly stipend will be provided. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and if housing is required it must be funded 100% by the student. Qualifications Required: * Currently pursuing BS or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Bioengineering, Molecular and Cell Biology. * Hands-on experience with cell culture. * Must be available for a period of 6 months, beginning June 2012.
