US Buyside Investment Analyst recruitment
JOB SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW
Responsible for researching and monitoring equity and fixed income managers and their investments.
Contribute to the manager’s research effort of the Equity Fixed Income Department. Propose the appointment or the termination of mandates to the CIO/Executive Director. Monitor the equities and fixed income managers performance in relation to their objectives / benchmark and guidelines.
Jobholder reports to the Chief Investment Officer of Equities Fixed Income Department.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Idea Generation - Research
Identify, research and propose managers in accordance with Policy to Senior Management
(CIO/Executive Director). Use and enhance the quantitative screening tools. Participate in manager’s due diligence including visits both in-house and on-site. Write research reports on existing and/or potential managers after meetings, visits or any news which could changes our investment thesis. Prepare recommendations to hire or fire managers under direct responsibility.
Assist in drafting of commercial and legal agreements, i.e. investment guidelines. Establish all required documents (i.e. Executive Summary) and monitor the execution of legal and financial terms. Collaborate pro-actively alongside other investment professionals to enhance idea generation and evaluation processes.
Portfolio Management
Analyse managers’ performance and risk characteristics in various market conditions to make recommendation to the allocation committee. Participate in the manager allocation meeting/discussion; assess how changes will affect the portfolio’s profile. Apply sensible rebalancing techniques considering relevant issues such as style returns, industry trends as well as regulatory and commercial developments. Instruct and monitor the implementation of investment decisions in collaboration with other departments and team members. Coach assigned junior analysts in their day-to-day priorities and workload.
Monitoring
Contribute to performance reports and reviews; Monitor and assess managers’ performance, checking transactions and reports; discuss manager activities and provide overall summaries to the Chief Investment Officer and/or Executive Director. Bring to the team’s attention any changes at the manager level such as Key personnel, investment process for decision. Support all investment activities, at pool level, and ensure that they are in compliance with the investment guidelines within a given legal framework.
EXPECTED TEAM CONTRIBUTION
Contribute pro-actively to the due diligence process, portfolio review and allocation meetings; Write and discuss investment manager reports for decision; Foster debate among the team to enhance objectivity and generate ideas; If applicable day-to-day management and development of assigned staff (Senior Analysts, Analysts and professional support personnel). Ensures that up-to-date knowledge around the institutional asset management industry, investment strategies and methods is available to team members.
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
Monthly and quarterly reviews of all issues impacting our managers such as portfolio characteristics or performance evolution.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University Degree or equivalent in a business related field
CFA or equivalent, MA or MBA
Experience
At least 6 years investment experience
At least 4 years in long-only or Long-Short manager research (focus and breath) in a well recognized investment house
Involved in designing and negotiating investment guidelines for segregated account mandate
Extensive writing exposure of interview, research and performance data as well as presentation to Investment committees or team
Applicable financial markets and/or institutional fund manager experience.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE / SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
Ability to use different information systems (Bloomberg, Factset, Style Research, Barra, MPI, etc).
In-depth understanding of the dynamics of equities and fixed income investments.
Good listening and questioning skills as a significant part of our research process is conducted through interviewing fund managers.
Excellent writing and analytical skills as all team members need to clearly document their recommendations
Strong Quant background
Ability to create and use elaborate quantitative models.
