Nice-Pak is recruiting for an experienced Value Stream Leader who has at least 5 -8 years' experience managing at least 8 salaried direct reports and approximately 120 hourly associates in a leadership capacity in our fast paced, high volume consumer goods manufacturing environment that is committed to continuous improvement.

The Indiana manufacturing facility runs 2 - 12 hour shifts daily from 6 to 6 to cover the 24/7 production schedule. Qualified candidates must be available to work days, nights, and weekends but will be assigned to a regular shift.

Essential Function:

This position has the primary responsibility for overseeing and improving the manufacturing operations overall efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, safety, and quality for an identified value stream. It is responsible for identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for processes, equipment functionality, costing, waste, and productivity. It is responsible for analyzing production and transactional processes to identify the cause of problems using problem-solving methodologies, and then working to create and implement solutions.

The position is also responsible for the leadership and mentoring of High Performance Work Teams and their performance in order to ensure that the work meets the Company's defined requirements and standards in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices. This position is responsible for individual team member performance including selection and training of employees, development and performance management, and adherence to Company policies in a lean environment.

  • Support the value stream with specific product-related information
  • Act as the key point of contact for the Value Stream.
  • Provide shift to shift consistency within area of responsibility.
  • Drive initiatives in the area of focus in an inclusive manner with the teams (which includes capital projects).
  • Facilitates action planning to drive performance improvements within the area of responsibility.
  • Work with production supervisors and other value stream leaders to ensure overall plant performance goals are achieved.

    Scope:

    This position interacts with all support departments including but not limited to Quality, Planning, Shipping Logistics, Maintenance, and Human Resources. In addition, this position leads the creation and oversite of high performance work teams.

    Position Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for continuous improvement processes to include projects, initiatives, process implementation, and problem solving practices for manufacturing associates and equipment.
    2. Utilize lean manufacturing tools and methodologies to analyze, measure, and improve processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity for short and long term solutions.
    3. Drive Safety performance and awareness, as a core value into the teams and individuals. Mentor team members for compliance with Company policies and safe practices. Ensure that all associates perform their jobs in a safe manner complying with Company safety standards and safety policies. Investigate and report all accidents and near misses that occur.
    4. Mentor and direct team members in the resolution of issues, which adversely affect production, material usage and quality. Train on lean tools and methodologies.
    5. Ensure compliance to company policies, cGMPs, SOPs, WIs, etc.
    6. Establish a mutually supportive and effective interface with other production teams, their leaders, and production support services.
    7. Utilizing necessary resources, identify and resolve machine downtime and delay, quality defects, OEE losses, raw material problems, etc.
    8. Oversee the performance and productivity for the value stream. Take necessary action to ensure associates achieve and maintain the highest possible performance levels.
    9. Ensure that all team members are trained to perform the functions to which they are assigned. Ensure that all team members know how to effectively perform all necessary product assembly, quality, safety, materials control, and production functions, including accurate preparation of daily reports.
    10. Conduct team meetings with intent to provide feedback, communicate change, and identify action items utilized in developing continuous improvement plans.
    11. Is responsible for items such as TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) variances, validation as it pertains to process controls, obstacles in attaining production speeds and CAPA (Corrective And Preventative Actions) responses and action item closures.
    12. Acts as the process owner regarding sample requests and new products.
    13. Works across functional area to drive projects to completion.
    14. Actively works with all shifts in their area of responsibility on key initiatives.
    15. All other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Requirements (if any)

    Direct Reports: 4 - 8 Production Supervisors

    Indirect Reports: 4 - 8 salaried non-exempt Value Stream Coordinators, 4 - 8 Value Stream Technical Leads, and up to 120 hourly associates across multiple shifts.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • BS degree in manufacturing, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or engineering technology, or related filed; or equivalent experience plus lean manufacturing certification.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification a plus.
  • 5-8 years' experience working in a supervisory or leadership capacity in a lean, high speed manufacturing environment.
  • Working in an OTC drug manufacturing environment, tissue, food packaging or nonwoven converting operation is highly desirable.

    Knowledge Required:

    1. Knowledge of lean or six sigma tools and methodologies
    2. Ability to coach, mentor, and lead in a high performance work team environment
    3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    4. Good math skills with the ability to utilize SPC and other statistical tools
    5. Willing to work overtime and varied shift assignments as required
    6. Knowledge of cGMP's and other FDA-related regulations
    7. Strong computer skills with the ability to organize, interpret, and present data.
    8. ISO experience helpful.
