Sales and Account Management

Department overview

Sales and Account Management are key functions within Markit. The candidate is responsible for client-facing activity including all aspects of business development for its specialist product line, region and focusing primarily on new business development; roll-out of new products via beta testing and overall business development.

Position summary

Looking for a proven sales person to sell credit data products (Desktop/Quotes, CDS data, Same day, RED), Valuation products (PV, Valuation Manager and Evaluated Bonds, Equity feeds) and Index products (iBoxx, CDX, iTraxx data) primarily in the UK Buyside. 

The role will be based in London.

Duties accountabilities

• All aspects of business development for the client segment. The candidate will be the main driver of revenue acquisition for their specialist product line and will ensure that the business goals are achieved. The candidate will be integral to the team structure – working closely with the Regional Manager and Sales support. Specifically these include:

oGeneration of lead pipeline for new business and existing clients

oAssistance in the budgeting process

oStrong focus on targeting new funds/clients and building new Markit relationships across the UK buy side.

oCross selling for other product lines. It is expected that the candidate be awarded with a combination of sales revenue and sales credits (when leads are referred and turn into either new revenue and/or upgrade revenue). The skew will be largely focussed to sales revenue.

oIdentify the client needs and feedback to relevant product groups.

oReporting of actual Vs budgeted sales on a regular basis

oAssistance in the implementation of all marketing related activities which would include: conference /sponsorship participation, sales collateral production, client entertainment; association memberships

• Relationship maintenance and development with key relationships

• Working with product/sales groups in the execution of contracts

• Strategic work and thinking with client base to identify new initiatives and lead generation

Business competencies

Education and experience

• Proven sales experience from a data, financial software or banking background

• Experience of selling into the UK Buy side would be preferred

• Knowledge and experience of capital markets data sales and especially OTC derivatives

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Strong inter-personal and influencing skills

• Ability to present and negotiate with senior level management whilst in many cases, managing complex sales process

• Must be organized and ability to manage multiple sales in parallel (20+ at any one time)

• Ability to meet internal/external deadlines

• Personable and able to demonstrate initiative

• Must have a self-starting, driven, assertive and positive attitude

Commercial awareness

• Must be able to understand the sales process, be comfortable dealing with senior level negotiations etc.

Management requirements

• Not necessary but ability to take on greater responsibility will be important
