Video Game Tournament Planner

Job Summary

This position reports to our Organized Play Manager and is responsible for the creative development, deployment and coordination of video game events and tournaments that build upon and support the Pokémon brand and organized play strategy. The successful candidate must be highly skilled in tournament and project management with an ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines, demonstrating flexibility in a fast-paced environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·         Conceptualize, plan, and present concepts for video game events that are new and innovative.

·         Coordinate the events and provide staff training to ensure smooth plan implementation.

·         Maintain excellent working relationships with volunteers who implement the events, and gather feedback for continuous improvement of events. 

·         Be an advocate for video game events and organized play.

·         Take control of event plans to ensure they are on time and within budget.

·         Respond to and track customer service issues that arise and be proactive in providing the customer service team with information about programs.

·         Stay informed about and arrange for the use of development hardware and software.

·         Answer any video game event-related questions from internal and external contacts.

·         Be a liaison between event staff, event participants, and the company.

 

Qualifications

·         3 - 5 years of event management experience.

·         Demonstrated experience with event/tournament conceptualization and staff training.

·         Passion for and knowledge of video games is required. Must love and play video games regularly. Experience with the Pokémon video game is a plus.

·         Must be detail-oriented and have strong writing skills.

·         Demonstrated experience organizing and maintaining high-visibility projects on time and on budget.

·         Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate clearly to peers and executives on a regular basis.

·         Ability to own projects from concept to execution with big-picture thinking as well as tactical ability.

·         International event experience is a plus.

·         Ability to work independently and also demonstrate capacity to work in a team.

·         Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

·         BA or BS degree or equivalent work experience. Marketing and PR experience/education is a plus.

 

Work Environment

·         Must be willing/able to travel domestic or internationally, as needed (15%).

·         Must be willing/able to do what it takes to get the job done.
