Software Architect, VMware
We are looking for a Virtualization Software Architect who will be responsible for the design and development of high-performance data I/O acceleration software for storage, networking and other data center systems running in large and complex enterprise environments. Virtualization Software Architects work in a team environment to develop acceleration technologies for use specifically with VMware-based IT Infrastructures.
Responsibilities:
Software Architects are responsible for designing high quality software systems and authoring engineering plans and specifications while working in close cooperation with other members of the development team during each phase of development (concept exploration, analysis, design, development, test and maintenance.) This position may occasionally require travel to customer sites.
Essential functions:
- Design, implement and maintain systems, drivers, classes, functions, components and resources for continuous high-speed use in various virtual I/O subsystems.
- Delegate portions of these designs to other engineers to develop.
- Directly accomplish development tasks (especially the more critical or challenging ones).
- Assist other programmers with debugging as needed so that the design is carried through to a successful and high-quality implementation.
- Oversee and review technical aspects of the project.
Skills Requirements
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge and proficiency with VMware vSphere, vCloud and SAAS technologies in a data center environment.
- Expert level knowledge of x86 operating systems, advanced networking, storage architectures and related programming experience is desirable. (Higher levels of storage preferred: file systems, file protocols, distributed systems, etc.)
- Ten or more years’ experience designing, developing and testing software in C, C++ and/or Java with emphasis on modular, scalable code.
- Assist in technically managing initial storage implementations including proof-of-concepts and pilots. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team in a technical leadership capacity. Strong ability to influence others and build consensus using written and verbal communication skills. Ability to articulate "the big picture" and offer solutions to make it better.
- Able to design and implement tests that will determine whether the developed system meets its specifications. Experience with testing frameworks is highly desirous.
- Maintain deep technical and business knowledge of virtualization platform industry directions and trends.
- Prior experience with agile methodologies is beneficial.
Education:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or equivalent, Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent preferred.
