VP of Prime Services Middle Office Operations Control Manager
The Prime Services Middle Office (MO) Department is responsible for facilitating the clearance and settlement of transactions in the Equity Prime Brokerage and Fixed Income Prime Brokerage, and the Broker Dealer Services accounts. As a client aligned team, they work directly with clients (typically Hedge Funds and broker dealers), their trade counterparties and Core Operations to resolve outstanding settlement issues (Breaks, Fails, etc). Additionally, the team also answers any inquiries a client may have with respect to the processing and settlement of their securities transactions.
Operational control and risk management is the foundation to operational excellence. The role of Operations Control Manager (OCM) within Investor Services Operations is to ensure controls and process disciplines are rigorously maintained and continually enhanced through metrics reporting, risk assessment testing, and quality assurance and root cause analysis.
The Operations Control Manager is accountable for internal control practices. The successful candidate will ensure controls are consistently practiced throughout the organization, ensure identification, escalation and resolution of operational risk, and provide oversight and sponsorship of selected control initiatives.
This position will report to the Global Operations Control Manager .
Key responsibilities:
- Monitor the control environment surrounding all technical, financial and operational processes.
- Work with Operations management to conduct self-assessments and develop action plans.
- Ensure all production control procedures are followed and appropriately evidenced.
- Provide oversight and coordination of key process control tests, including the collation and reporting of test results and the development and implementation of enhancements where necessary.
- Work with Operations management to investigate incidents/errors, perform root cause analysis, identify recommended solutions and report to senior management.
- Oversee controls development and deployment, providing ad hoc control guidance, key project participation, and support the introduction of procedural/ policy enhancements.
- Serve as the key contact for regulatory or risk questions for the business.
- Support SSAE-16 and other Audit-related activities.
- Drive the operations training agenda around risk awareness and mitigation.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to multiple levels of management both in writing and orally
- Demonstrated experience with all Microsoft Office products, to include: Excel, Access, Power point, Word
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to manage through a changing business landscape
- Ability to focus on the key issues and drive initiatives to conclusion
- Detail oriented with ability to deliver consistently
- Strong time management and multitasking ability
- Business and Subject Matter Knowledge
- Strong financial markets product knowledge and understanding of the transaction lifecycle in Prime Brokerage products
- Subject matter expertise in Prime Brokerage products
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of prime brokerage operational experience
- Operational Control experience in a securities processing environment, Audit, Operations Management experience LOB knowledge
- Product knowledge
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of risk management tools
