Skills Requirements

Essential Tech Skills:

Essential Qualities:

"Self-motivated" means you can manage your own time and get things done without someone breathing down your neck. Our job is to give you what you need to accomplish a goal and get out of the way. Everyone will be happier that way, but the ability to execute is absolutely essential.

You must not be afraid or opposed to working in other technologies as the need arises. We'll try to align your work with your comfort zone as much as possible, but we have a lot of clients. They want a lot of things. Adaptability is mandatory.

Bring an entrepreneurial spirit. We didn't start this company to play it safe and boring.

Be pragmatic. Care strongly about elegant code (as we do) but not so much that it gets in the way of accomplishing a goal. Delivering maximum value is paramount and demands a balanced approach.

What you'll be doing:

Writing and maintaining web applications, primarily in Ruby on Rails with React.js, Backbone.js, and PostgreSQL. For customers as well as internal products and infrastructure.

Hiring process:

We put you through the same hiring process as all engineers and designers at Revelry: We meticulously read your cover letter or introduction email. We briefly skim your résume. If you catch our interest, we meet and pick your brain. If that goes well, we bring you in for a full-day paid tryout to work on a real application. After that, we make our decision.

Homework:

If you're a good programmer, but Ruby on Rails and React.js are not currently your thing, you should have at least taught yourself a bit of both by the time we talk in person: Enough to be able to demonstrate that you've made the effort. Exposure to both will definitely help you if you are selected for a tryout day.
