As a Workers Compensation Senior Inside Claims Representative, you will help people resolve problems and live safer more secure lives. Under moderate supervision you will obtain information essential to processing pension Workers' Compensation (WC) claims for multiple jurisdictions. You will provide injured workers, beneficiaries and customers with accurate, timely information, quality service and identify potential problems to make claim referral decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Process fatality benefits, including burial, spousal and dependent benefits based on jurisdictional requirements.
- Provide ongoing medical and/or disability management for assigned permanent total disability and long-term medical management claims. Initiates calls to injured worker and medical provider to resolve medical treatment issues as needed.
- Continually assesses claim status to determine if problem cases or those exceeding protocols should be referred for evaluation by a complex claims case manager and/or would benefit from, nurse case manager review or other medical/claims resources.
- Maintains accurate records and handles administrative responsibilities associated with processing and payment of claims. Records and updates status notes; documents results of contacts, relevant medical reports, and duration information per file posting standards. Generates form letters following set guidelines (i.e., letters confirming medical treatment/disability and letters outlining expected outcome).
- Authorizes and/or issues payment of biweekly and monthly benefits, medical payments and/or medical treatment within assigned authority levels. Calculates annual increases as needed.
- Recognizes potential subrogation cases, prepares cases for subrogation and refers these cases to the Subrogation Units.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3+ years related customer service experience or applicable insurance knowledge.
- Licensing required in some states.
- Effective analytical skills required to learn and apply basic policy/contract coverage and recognize questionable coverage/contract situations (which necessitate supervisory involvement) along with effective interpersonal skills to explain the facts and logic used to arrive at decisions in a way that the customer understand.
- Effective written skills to compose clear, succinct descriptions when posting files and drafting correspondence.
- Good telephone and typing skills required.
- Ability to learn/follow state-specific regulations, recognizes when appropriate to use medical management resources, and know when to use them and follow through with medical information received.
