Role: Compliance Manager, Monitoring (Global Markets)

Purpose of the job

Reporting to the Global Markets Monitoring Team Leader, the jobholder will be required to carry out independent compliance monitoring activities across Global Markets in order to obtain reasonable assurance that the business is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, codes and HSBC Group Standards.

Responsible For

• Carry out thorough preparation and high-quality monitoring fieldwork / desk reviews, achieving agreed timelines and providing regular updates on progress to the Team Leader. 

• Using existing templates, prepare well-drafted reports to inform key stakeholders of the outcome of monitoring and review work, including the rating of findings and assignment of recommendations to owners.

• Agree reports of monitoring and review work with the Team Leader / Head of Compliance and the business.

• Record details of compliance monitoring and track recommendations within review files and reporting database.

• Contribute to the preparation of compliance risk assessments, drawing on the experience and knowledge of the local compliance advisory team, operational risk colleagues and business management.

• Contribute to the preparation of a monitoring plan for the business(es) within your team’s remit.

•        Foster a close working relationship with the local compliance advisory team and business. Work collaboratively across peer group and organisation. Collaborate and foster good relations with other Compliance teams.

• Remain up to date with key business, regulatory and industry developments and any changes to procedures and practices.

•       Set an example to other team members, demonstrating core behaviours and values including teamwork, focus, drive and determination.

Essential Experience

• Experience of providing compliance monitoring or regulatory audits within a Global Markets business or covering broad GM product ranges including foreign exchange, credits and rates, structured derivatives, equities and debt, capital markets, prime services, client money and assets. 

• Good knowledge of the FSA Handbook, exchanges / clearing house rules and procedures. 

• Proven analytical skills, together with the ability to support decisions with sound reasoning.

• Proven report-writing skills, with the ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.

• Proven strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both Compliance colleagues and the Business.

• Competent user of Microsoft office (including excel and powerpoint) and preferably Lotus Notes.

• Effective written and personal communication across all levels of seniority, clearly articulating business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.

• Ability to supporting decisions with sound reasoning.

• Reliable time management, with the ability to deliver high quality monitoring reviews to an agreed deadline.

• Ability to work well within a team environment, providing support to colleagues and maintaining strong information flows whilst retaining personal responsibility for delivery and quality of work undertaken.

• Strong record-keeping skills.

• Fostering and maintaining an attitude of ‘can do’ within the Compliance Monitoring Team.
