Derivatives Client Service Manager

Scope of Work

The primary function of the Derivative Consultant (“DC”) team is to act as the liaison between a client or investment manager (IM) and the Derivatives support teams. A DC is the primary point of contact and is responsible for facilitating communication and simplifying information flow for clients that use Derivative contracts. DC positions are staffed with enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals, able to perform effectively in a fast-paced deadline-oriented multi-task environment.

The DC team has an immediate opening for a Derivatives Client Services Manager. The job holder will be responsible for overall service management and new client implementations for a number of our key client and/or Investment Manager relationships in Australia. The incumbent will be responsible for the strategic development of those relationships, delivery of daily service, managing the operational risk embedded in the relationship, ensuring the Derivative product development strategy meets the needs of the client and investment management community, interfacing with internal partners to address issues, spearheading process improvements and driving change. The candidate will be part of the senior management leadership team in Global Derivatives and must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and be able to represent Northern Trust at client presentations, various industry and business forums. This individual must be a lead driver of Derivatives overall vision, ensure that consistent standards and best practices are utilized and drive key initiatives and issues to conclusion.

Duties

• Participates in developing the business unit strategic plan, and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit. Follows through to ensure objectives are met.

• Lead derivatives presentations to existing and prospective clients, provide key input to sales and RFP process.

• Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment which encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.

• Manage the relationships with Clients to ensure that all Operations processing and control requirements are met and be responsible for ensuring that functions therein deliver as required. Oversees daily operations of client servicing and acts to determine the services to meet client needs.

• Researches and analyzes complex client inquiries. Handles problem client situations offering support and resolution.

• Understand Client and new product requirements and ensure that all Operational requirements are fully defined and implemented in order to provide the best level of support both regionally and globally.

• Develops an understanding of client’s strategic goals and market challenges, ensuring client satisfaction levels and establishing and maintaining service plans.

• Work closely with change management, technology, relationship managers and other business partners to ensure smooth service delivery and infrastructure is flexible and robust enough to accommodate client’s ongoing needs.

• Be a change driver, be control focused, constantly seeking areas’ of improvement through process review, workflow analysis, control implementation and enhanced management information.

Knowledge Required

Extensive knowledge of trust, asset management, custody or other relevant financial services industry operations is required to manage the overall client experience. Skills in negotiation, delegation, leadership, client service, organizational and problem solving are required. Derivatives operations experience is preferred.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Business or applied sciences.

• Experience in client servicing and/or financial service operations, including senior level responsibilities in a fast-paced, client-focused, deadline-oriented environment. Strong Derivatives experience is preferred.

• Extensive experience within an Operations environment with strong process and control skills.

• Experience of working within Asset Management or Investor Service, but would also consider a background in a broker dealer or similar.

• Proven experience developing teams and be capable of influencing senior management both internally and externally.

• High appreciation of the current strategic direction of Derivatives Operations and any industry initiatives which may affect it.

• Proven ability to lead teams towards meeting client expectations, but to also be a team player with a track record of building strong networks and relationships.
