SUMMARY OF POSITION

North County Lifeline (http://www.nclifeline.org/) is seeking a dynamic professional who has experience as a fund development generalist in a human services organization to start-up our private development program. Lifeline has more than 40 year of history as a community based, social services provider in north San Diego County and provides a wide range of services to families in crisis and trouble youth. The

Development Director has the primary responsibility for the planning and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for North County Lifeline. The Development Director will expand and direct strategy for philanthropy, build relationships for long-term philanthropic support, and manage all fundraising elements for the organization.

Major Responsibilities:

Develop and oversee the development of North County Lifeline’s annual fundraising plan, including unrestricted and restricted fund development goals, based on a three-year vision/plan for establishing a fundraising program.

  • Work collaboratively with Executive Director and Development Committee Chair and provide leadership to Board, staff and volunteers to implement the fundraising plan.
  • Implement a donor-centered fundraising program that includes annual giving, other individual and major gifts, corporate sponsorship, foundation funding and planned giving.
  • Identify prospective individual, foundation and corporate funder prospects and prepare proposals for program support, general operating and special projects.
  • Create and execute an ongoing strategy for building a large, sustained base of annual individual donors. Expand annual giving strategies to include e-giving, Facebook and Twitter.
  • Develop a planned giving program.
  • Plan and direct the contact of potential donors with direct appeals for gifts identifying the appropriate Board member, volunteer, or staff where necessary.
  • Train and support personnel (staff and volunteers) in fund development strategies to increase the organization’s capacity to increase revenues and strengthen the positive image of North County Lifeline.
  • Recruit, where necessary, and train volunteers in comprehensive fundraising activities (Board, corporate sponsorships, major gifts and community) to make effective gift approaches.  
  • Become active in the community through membership and/or participation in appropriate community civic, networking and business development organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Typical Physical Needs:

    Requires prolonged standing, sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and/or typewriter, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and documents. May need to climb stairs and lift up to 40 lbs.

    Typical Working Conditions:

    Normal professional office setting. Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekends. Incumbent may be required to travel within and out of City to attend meetings, and may need to use his/her personal vehicle in the course of employment.

    This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary negotiable based on experience and demonstrated past success in private fund development. Fully paid benefit package provided in accordance with the Personnel Policy Manual EOE.
