Energy Legal Counsel, Compliance & Regulation

The primary objective of the role will be to provide support and assistance to the Senior Legal Counsel and the Head of Compliance in promoting and continuing to develop a culture of compliance within the business, designing compliance policies and procedures and providing compliance advice.

You will be required to manage a portfolio of compliance activities including: promotion of compliance culture, giving advisory opinions, supporting financial crime/market conduct programs, conflicts management, providing compliance training, applying knowledge of energy and financial commodity products, approving new business initiatives, policy development, and assessing applicable forthcoming UK and EU financial legislation in conjunction with Regulatory Affairs and Legal.

In this role you will be expected to contribute to the compliance strategy, policy development, provision of product advisory opinions and development/execution of day to day monitoring and surveillance activities as required.

It is essential to be effective at the micro and macro level and perform an ambassadorial role for the compliance department when dealing numerous levels of people within the business.

Overall, you will need to deliver and develop expertise in the legal, compliance and regulatory aspects of energy market regulation more broadly.

It is essential that you have a Sound appreciation of compliance principles and practices as they apply to an FSA, and post April 2013 FCA, regulated entity. The required background will be experience from within a blue chip in-house background or a top tier International Law firm.
