Energy Risk Analyst

Wood Mackenzie’s Global Markets team is responsible for developing Wood Mackenzie's macro and country economic view, long term energy supply and demand balances and generating near and long term country risk forecasts. These energy balances cover all fuels, including oil, gas, coal, nuclear and alternative energy sources such as renewables and biofuels.
The Risk Analyst will take the lead in generating in-depth and forward-looking analysis of political, economic and social developments in Africa and its impact on the oil and gas sector. Specifically, the Risk Analyst will be responsible for analysing and developing content on African markets for:
- Regional and country-level energy policy and regulatory trends
- Geopolitical analysis of the region that may impact future energy trends
- Other above ground risk factors including but not limited to local content, infrastructure, governance, etc
- Energy trade covering oil, gas, coal, and electricity with support from an energy analyst
- Fuel-specific demand outlooks with commentary on inter-fuel dynamics with support from energy analyst
Main Responsibilities
- Produce current and forward-looking analysis on political and economic events in Africa and its effect on the oil and gas industry
- Write time-sensitive insights and briefs on country risk
- Research and evaluate sources of information to determine the long-term energy supply and demand outlook for a particular country
- Communicate with internal research groups to ensure alignment and integration on energy forecast and country risk
- Build and deepen relationships within the energy industry and country experts in region
Knowledge and Experience
- Master’s degree in international affairs, economics, political science, regional studies (African studies), energy or related studies
- At least two years of experience in country risk analysis on Africa or in-country experience. Exposure to an energy-related field (or other extractive industry) strongly desired
- Understanding of AGR (Above Ground Risk) issues and energy policy as well as a general awareness of the geopolitics of the region.
- Knowledge of African energy market fundamentals would be helpful in this role.
