Finance and Business Controller recruitment

Business Control forms the overarching, end-to-end control of the Financial Services functions including Risk and PL Production, Transaction Accounting and month-end close processes. The Business Control Lead Manager plays a critical part in developing and implementing the strategy to mitigate the financial risk caused by control issues across these functions for a given business. The role is business aligned and reports to the GBS Business Head for each of our global businesses, responsible for managing the control environment for all 'trade to book' processes globally including financial control.

Business Control roles have the following characteristics:

–         Responsible for the key controls that support the daily P(L) and risk production processes and the related closure of the firm’s books at each month end.

–         Provides oversight and management of balance sheet substantiation at a secondary account ownership level.

–         Establish and implement procedures to monitor measure and improve product performance against SLAs, KPIs and KRIs, regularly measuring or receiving output of measurements to demonstrate areas of concern and compliance with standards.

–         Partners with strategic CTB projects and initiatives whether these are regulatory or business driven, consistently reviewing the environmental design and operational effectiveness

–         Work closely with operational control function to continue to strengthen operational controls globally across GBS. Establish and implement KPIs and KRIs across the front to back trade lifecycle in order to ensure that all control gaps are either eliminated or monitored. 

Acts as a point of contact and escalation for engagements with the wider Finance community, taking part in key Finance interactions and leveraging the QA and Validation Control framework to minimise duplication of effort and maximise efficiencies.

Accounting for Fixed Income and Credit Derivatives Financial Control Function with focus on compliance to the provisions laid down by Sarbanes Oxley and overall assessment of control environment / control documentation across various business lines in Global Markets.  (GC, IG, HY, CSG, Distressed Products, RMBS)


The GC Derivatives desk is primarily a flow trading desk that specializes in credit default protection interest rate protection contracts. The FinCon group is responsible for controlling deals executed by the desk by providing risk, pl and accounting analysis. FinCon is also responsible for ensuring the effective operation of and adherence to the internal control framework to prevent or detect material financial errors. They are also responsible for ensuring adherence to financial reporting standards under US GAAP, IFRS, and HGB.

Responsibilities: 

• Regional strategic oversight for the US GCT and RMBS businesses reporting to the Global Head of Financial Control for Global Credit.

• Manage a team of ~25 professionals

• Senior relationship manager with CTB, BE, Product Heads and Finance and audit/regulators when applicable   

• Ensures processes within the teams remit are managed to the highest standards of control, focusing attention on managing global end to end processes and ensuring the business has a control framework that is consistent with that approach.

• Work closely with operational control function to continue to strengthen operational controls globally across GBS. Establish and implement KPIs and KRIs across the front to back trade lifecycle in order to ensure that all control gaps are either eliminated or monitored. 

• Provide oversight and direction for the organisational design and operational effectiveness of the businesses’ control environment, acting as a central focal point for business related control environment discussions and control effectiveness evaluations. 

• Provide support and direction to GBS Global Business Head in relation to control deficiencies and related impact to deliverables to key clients and stakeholders.

• Acts as a point of contact and escalation for engagements with the wider Finance community. Taking part in key Finance interactions and leveraging the QA and Validation Control framework to minimise duplication of effort and maximise efficiencies.

• Take responsibility for the geographical spread and global consistency of the control function, ensuring correct alignment of roles and responsibilities and appropriate levels of staff are in place to establish and manage change in onshore, nearshore and offshore locations.

• Builds a Culture of Control, cascading roles and responsibilities into teams and working these into team objectives and individuals’ PMOs.

• Partners with strategic CTB projects and initiatives whether these are regulatory or business driven, consistently reviewing the environmental design and operational effectiveness

Requirements

• At least 12 years of relevant experience in Product / Financial Control or related space

• Strong accounting and financial control skills, preferably ACA or CPA

• Excellent leadership and management skills, able to work in virtual global teams and in a matrix organization

• Previous exposure to senior level decision-makers and stakeholders

• Up to date knowledge of regulatory and financial reporting landscape

• Excellent communication skills

• Excellent team worker, able to work in virtual global teams and in a matrix organization

• Open minded, able to share information, transfer knowledge and expertise to team members

• Flexibility regarding problem solving

• Keeps pace with technical innovation and market driven initiatives and maintains a broad understanding of the GBS offering

• Knowledge of control environment to enable intelligent assessment of control weaknesses that expose company to risk of material financial misstatement.

• Knowledge of IFRS/ US GAAP e.g. FAS133, IAS39

• Exposure to financial instruments e.g. fixed income products, derivatives (preferred but not  required )
