Financial Controller (with route to FD)

Our client in a Central London based marketing agency. Established 10 years ago they have enjoyed growth year on year through hard work and living their brand values and now turnover £20m and are profitable and cash rich. Owned by two creative entrepreneurs, they place huge importance on the calibre of their employees as well as the service they provide their clients, and now work with some of the world’s most recognised brands. As you would expect, the offices are funky and the work environment sociable.

This business is looking to attract a high calibre and ambitious Qualified Accountant to join them as Financial Controller. The FC will head up the finance function, initially reporting to and mentored by a part time FD who will be gradually moving away from the business over the next year. The FC will take then sole responsibility for the delivery of both external and internal reporting and working with the Directors and senior management team closely. Control of finance aside, this person will work with Account Directors to build and deliver pitches, will provide insightful analysis to various departments to boost profitability and growth, and will support the MD with growing the business and the various projects this will require. The FC will manage one existing report and will recruit another upon starting.

The Financial Controller should be looking to achieve first FD role and should expect to inspire trust and impress the company Directors in the first year in order to receive this promotion, through sound financial leadership, control and commercial impact. This business is striving for improvement and this individual will need the confidence, gravitas and intellect to deliver this.

The successful candidate will be a Qualified Accountant with PQE gained in a commercial business. Media background is not a pre-requisite, although an interest in the sector and client facing experience will be a distinct advantage. Candidates will be able to demonstrate all round financial management experience in a recent / current role, ideally as number one or number two in a similar sized business or division, and they should show ‘value adding’ achievements on their CV. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to start within 2 months.
