Global Fund Operations Sourcing and Procurement Manager recruitment

Role Summary

Working manager with responsibilities for strategic sourcing initiatives and supplier relationship management for Russell’s global fund operations services and suppliers. The focus of this position will be:

(1) Collaborate with multiple business units to develop and execute Russell’s global fund operations supplier-specific strategies

(2) Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives and a supplier relationship management program to drive cost savings and program efficiencies globally.

This position’s externally-facing focus is to conduct strategic sourcing events to reduce costs and identify the optimal supply base for Russell, proactively manage suppliers to reduce costs and drive efficiencies, work with vendors to identify substitute products/services, and manage demand to reduce consumption.

This position’s internally-facing focus is to develop and manage robust services for internal global clients for fund operations services. Best-in-class services are defined as proactive and timely responses to requests, documented process playbooks with clear roles and responsibilities, and tighter control of and visibility into Russell’s fund operation supplier and service base, and a global policy to drive consistent approvals and appropriate usage, and a cross-functional governance model to alignment of services with business strategies.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

Relationship Management:

• Partner with senior leadership in business units and other key stakeholders to manage third party relationships (suppliers)

• Collaborate with businesses to drive the global fund operations supplier-specific strategies, including initiatives to demonstrate ownership of category and drive savings and operational efficiencies

• Provide thought leadership and guidance to business units in the area of Strategic sourcing, procurement services and supplier management in the global fund operations category

• Develop and drive cross-functional governance model(s) to conduct stakeholder review and approval of global fund operations strategy and supplier contracts

• Report out to business units on activity, trends, areas of opportunity, and compliance to relevant policies

Strategic Sourcing

• Lead strategic sourcing efforts in support of business unit operations for global fund operations services

• Lead strategic sourcing efforts to identify proactive sourcing opportunities to reduce costs and increase services or manage risk.

• Conduct research and benchmarking; provide key subject matter expertise on assigned categories

• Develop operational business cases to proactively drive/develop cost savings initiatives and efficiency gains

Functional/Influence Management

• Manage direct and indirect reports, including mentoring junior team members

• Ensure successful administration of global fund operations category, including requisition process and cross-functional approval process for any new purchases

• Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure supplier management program compliance.

• Lead and or participate in supplier management committees, such as: the Supplier Relationship Center of Excellence, Supplier Alliance Savings Initiative, and the Supplier Management Working Group. 

• Lead cost management effort by partnering with key business executives

Supplier Management

• Act as or manage direct reports who will act as the enterprise-wide supplier relationship manager; develop and train business stakeholders on roles and responsibilities in supplier relationship management

• Develop and manage a holistic supplier governance program with the support of business unit stakeholders

• Monitor supplier scorecards and drive resolution of performance issues with key suppliers

• Ensure timely reporting of supplier Key Performance Indicators (“KPI’s”) in summary form to business unit leadership.

• Partner with key suppliers to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.


The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

• Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Finance, Legal, Process Engineering, Supply Chain Management; Master’s degree preferred.

• CPM, CPSM or equivalent preferred.

• 7+ years thorough knowledge of strategic sourcing and category management techniques and methodologies holistically (balancing cost, risk and performance).

• 7+ years of experience in managing or providing global fund operations services as part of an outsourced relationship; will include deep knowledge of custody, fund accounting, and transfer agent services from firms such as State Street, BNY Mellon, JPMorgan Chase, etc.

• 5+ years of experience of both direct and indirect management

• Ability to develop influencing relationship with varying levels of management and individual contributors from various business units.

• Experienced in negotiating contracts valued in excess of $3M for assigned categories of spend; clear understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

• Experienced in the development and implementation of supplier management practices and/or processes on an enterprise basis, including SLAs, KPIs, and governance models

• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all levels of management

• Deep subject matter expertise for assigned Spend Categories.

• Proficient negotiation and financial modeling skills.

• Ability to root cause problem/issues and provide solutions/options support with fact base/data driven analysis.

• Able to balance and prioritize multiple high priority projects.

• Able to influence and lead others within the department, business units, and various support units.
