Group Financial Reporting Manager

Working within the Commercial Finance department of this leading technology business in Abingdon. Reporting to the Vice President this is a high profile role and you will need to be able to demonstrate being able to build effective working relationships at all levels. The key objective of the position is to both manage, and assist in, the preparation of financial reporting for the Group as a whole including both external and internal reporting. External reporting will include statutory accounts and quarterly reporting; whilst internal reporting will include monthly management accounts and forward looking plan and forecast reporting. This role also involves interface with: the CFO and the other finance departments in Abingdon and around the world.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Group Reporting:
Management reporting:
• Monthly group reporting – monthly, quarterly, annual (US GAAP); production of variance analysis.
· Preparation of monthly results files for results meeting.
• Attendance at monthly results meeting.
• Issue profit and loss account, balance sheet and support schedules.
• Issue management accounts.
• Prepare Board presentations.
• Plan and forecast results reporting.
• Assist in determining the most appropriate scope and format for all management reporting.

Quarterly / Interim / year-end reporting:
• Planning and implementing the statutory reporting timetable to ensure that the Group’s external reporting timetable can be met.
• Statutory reporting (US GAAP / IFRS) for consolidated group financial statements.
• Preparation of financial statements for external publication.
• Segmental reporting.
• Preparation of press release.
• Preparation of analyst presentations.
• Preparation of back-up book.

Covenants / bank reporting:
• Monitor covenant compliance in liaison with the treasury team
• Prepare quarterly bank reports for external release

Parent reporting:
• Meetings and liaison with financial controller of parent company
• Quarterly reporting process.

Other areas:
Systems:
• Systems development and review
• Build a detailed knowledge of the systems that make up the reporting environment and advise on the impact of changes.

Adhoc accounting advice:
• Assist in determining appropriate Group accounting policies and ensure that these are applied consistently.
• Keep up-to-date with technical developments, especially in relation to US and International GAAP.
• Technical accounting projects – acquisitions, disposals, GAAP changes
• Liaison with other departments to provide financial accounting advice.
• Liaison with corporate countries to give group financial accounting direction.
• Review and discussion of new accounting standards.

Projects:
• Lead work streams contributing to successful Commercial Finance project deliveries. Work closely with internal management and external stakeholders on data collection and verification.
• Examples may include: debt refinancing; modelling target acquisitions and post-acquisition integration work; and, supporting the delivery of new internal systems

Business and Finance Support:
• Ensure the Commercial Finance function is providing consistent, high quality monthly support to senior management and finance controllers across the business. Make sure they are fully informed on actual results, planning and forecasting processes.
• Provide support and guidance to the wider finance team as required
• Assist in adhoc reporting activities as required

The individual who filled this position would probably have previous public company and US GAAP reporting experience. This will require good up to date technical literacy which is likely to have been established from employment with a “Big 4” accounting firm and qualification as a chartered accountant.

The individual who filled this position would probably have the following characteristics:
· Qualified ACA / ACCA
· Relevant post qualification experience
· Previous financial accounting experience; with good up-to-date technical literacy
· Previous US GAAP reporting experience preferably in a public company
· Keen interest in a high-quality response to the department’s customers
· Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
· Experience of working with senior management teams
· Self-motivated and wishing to make a difference, with a track record of achievements. Drive and determination
· Strong communication, inter-personal skills and influencing skills are an important attribute in running a busy function in accordance with strict timetables, whilst implementing changes and dealing with adhoc matters and issues as they arise
· The ability to organise a busy and demanding workload is essential as is the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines, with changing priorities.
· An IT literate person with good Excel and PowerPoint skills
