Institutional MBS Trader
Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Identify and maintain an efficient marketplace based on the needs of the firm.
- Track and monitor the availability of MBS positions within the marketplace.
- Cultivate and maximize opportunities for revenue to the firm by catering to internal and external client needs.
- Quantify fair market values within the SBA, ARM, Agency CMO, DUS and Pass Through ectors, and identify opportunities based on clients needs.
- Present a wide array of securities that represent value in each sector.
- Select at least two specific and developed presentations, per sector, per day to be included in “bond house” on a consistent basis.
- Build relationships with all primary and regional dealers in the MBS segments and strengthen existing relationships while maximizing revenue
- Study the developments in the marketplace and be able to effectively communicate the technical issues that affect the purchase and sale of securities.
- Develop and cultivate “team sector coverage” to ensure that there are at least three traders to manage each sector.
- Attend and become an active participant of coaching sessions, sales meetings, and training seminars on a regular basis
Position Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics with series 7 and 63 licensing.
- 5-7 years of experience in fixed income trading or portfolio management with strong emphasis on the SBA, ARM, Agency CMO, DUS and Pass Through sectors of mortgage-backed securities.
- Effective use of tools such as Bloomberg for analytics, research and communication; knowledge of CMS Bondedge is a plus. Proficient in MS Office products with a focus on Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest rates, commissions, proportions, percentages, amortizations (basic bond match skills).
- Exceptional communication skills with regard to technical information and the ability to identify when it should be utilized in the sales process.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as bonds, financial market indices, rates, articles, contracts, instructions and reports.
- Negotiation skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, prospects, colleagues and high-level employees of an organization.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to read, interpret and strategize based on IP information.
