Position: Lead Product Engineer, Seat Engineering, GM Business Unit
Location: Plymouth, MI
An Engineer with strong interest in product design and excellent communication skills is needed to work on vehicle seating systems. The Engineer will be responsible for supporting technical and program interactions with the customer platform team and General Assembly Plant and also spend time interfacing with service groups, suppliers and manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities will focus on leading JCI's product development engineering activities for multiple rows of seats for a North American OEM.
This position requires in-depth vehicle packaging knowledge, basic understanding of seating Requirements/Targets. Excellent communication skills and presentation skills.
Plan and execute all engineering deliverables for on-time gate exits (mass, product cost, development cost, performance safety requirements, BOM, drawings, layouts, FEA, and validation). Negotiate directly with the customer to resolve issues and minimize JCI's engineering waste (rework). Provide clear direction from the voice of the customer to internal engineering activities.
Conduct design reviews and open issues meetings. Manage issue resolution to the customer timeline.
Integration of design development including all support groups (trim, foam, metals, mechanisms, plastics, comfort, and JCI's technical experts).
Apply all JCI standards and lean engineering initiatives. Coordinate activities with Suppliers, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, etc.
Role will also provide leadership to a team of Engineers and Designers who will also support the program deliverables.
MS or BS in Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
- Ideal candidate will possess minimum 6 years experience in Seat or Interiors Engineering - Complete seat design and manufacturing experience with metals, mechanisms, foam, trim, plastics, wiring, as well as complete seat integration highly desired.
- Basic CAD experience with CATIA V5 required, advanced skills preferred.
- Proven mechanical aptitude for problem solving using structure process / tools - Excellent planning skills - Good written and verbal communication skills - Ability to lead direct and cross functional product development team
- Willingness to travel as required
