Manager - Accounting

Manages moderately complex assignments involving accounting projects. Requires a broad knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Provides training and guidance to less experienced staff and may provide leadership on project teams. Accounting assignments include collecting, recording, classifying, examining, analyzing or reporting accounting transactions. Typical areas of responsibility include accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, collections, assets control, product cost, labor or inventory analysis or consolidation. Typical responsibilities include: analyzing the effects of transactions upon accounting relationships, evaluating alternative means of treating transactions and interpreting the meaning of accounting records, reports and statements. Participates in the posting of account changes, correction of journal entries, reconciliation of outstanding account balances, and preparation of periodic reports on account statuses. Assures the adequacy of the accounting systems as the basis for reporting to management. Recommends improvements, adaptations or revisions in accounting systems and methods and procedures. May supervise a support group of accountants and/or administrative employees within the established accounting policies of the organization. Supervising, this position plans, schedules, and manages the group and participates in the posting of account changes, correction of journal entries, reconciliation of outstanding account balances, and preparation of periodic reports on account statuses. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting of objectives. Recommends change to unit or sub-unit policies. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules. Typically supervises exempt and/or skilled nonexempt employees (i.e., associate credit analysts, and other accounting support). Typically reports into the 2nd Level of Management.
