Job Purpose/Background:
The candidate will be working in a team environment with the need to work across a number of departments within Blackrock, including Real Estate, Legal Compliance, Tax, Corporate Services and client portfolio management teams. As such the candidate should be able to fit into a team but also have confidence to ensure legal procedures are followed by the whole team in order to assess and control any potential risks associated with Real Estate.
Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will be supporting the Real Estate team in relation to:
- Liaising with external law firms and agreeing fees levels
- Acquisitions and sales at both asset and corporate levels
- Joint ventures
- Financing and refinancing
- Development management activities
- Fund holding company formations, on-going operations and dissolutions
- Assisting with Fund offerings
- Investment property management documentation
- Supporting the Senior Counsel to oversee compliance with investment processes and operations of the Real Estate group in Europe, including maintenance of offshore funds
- As part of the Legal Compliance department the candidate will be expected to assist with the implementation of Blackrock policies
- Supporting the Senior Counsel in oversight of regulatory compliance, especially under the US Bank Holding Company Act
- Litigation
The candidate will also support the Corporate Services team in relation to real estate matters in relation to Blackrock's offices in Europe.
Knowledge/Experience:
The candidate should be a good communicator, both verbal and written, and be able to explain complex legal issues to a non-legal audience. They should be able to summarize issues and provide potential solutions in the context of a commercial fund management business. They should be self-motivated in order to drive forward tasks and be a good anticipator of issues that might arise. The candidate should be someone who canvasses views of the internal clients before progressing matters. The candidate must be a qualified English solicitor or equivalent from a similar common law jurisdiction. .
