Description

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist is a member of the Data Quality team that is responsible for the development of process documentation for regulatory reports and the coordination of the assessment of internal controls over regulatory reporting. S/he is a key resource who coordinates the SOX assessment program for regulatory reporting, as well as provides thorough and reliable identification of documentation used by regulatory reporting and data providers. S/he will also participate in reporting the effectiveness of regulatory processes and controls to senior management and end-to-end Global Process Owners and their teams. The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist is accountable for assessing complex business processes, identifying control deficiencies and recommendations, and the preparing of workpapers/documentation to support control assessments. S/he will also track the status of deficiencies and their remediation by process owners and; report findings to leadership and management.

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist also participates in regulatory-based projects as an internal controls subject matter expert. As a subject matter expert, S/he provides guidance on the integration of internal controls into finance processes and systems.

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist will support the objectives of Data Quality Team by assisting in the development of processes and control documentation for regulatory reports, as well as assisting data providers in developing process and control documentation. S/he will:

Ensure compliance with required SOX test plans and documentation requirements.

Coordinate and monitor SOX-related testing of internal controls for complex regulatory processes.

Prepare workpapers to document testing work performed.

Prepare documentation on deficiencies identified and document, coordinate and communicate remediation steps.

Follow-up on the status of deficienciy remediation efforts.

Prepare scheduled and ad hoc reports and presentations.

Prepare updates to Regulatory SOX process documentation and training.

Work with process owners to assess the risk related to control findings.

Perform ad hoc and special projects assignments, as required.

Will work with the Manager of Data Quality to identify and communicate opportunities for improved efficiency/accuracy of processes. Will implement tracking metrics of reorting effectiveness for senior management.

Subject Matter Expertise: On a continuous and timely basis, the Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist is responsible for staying abreast of legislative and regulatory developments and current industry trends/discussions affecting Regulatory reporting and SOX compliance. They must advance their knowledge of Regulatory reporting and SOX compliance and apply it in a timely manner to continuously improve processes to comply with rule changes.

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist must have in-depth knowledge of auditing and accounting principles. S/he must be able to understand the causes and impact of deficiencies; and the framework of procedures and controls required to reduce the likelihood of material misstatements. S/he must understand the regulatory environment and the implications of changes enacted.

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist must understand the structure and complexities of processes and reporting functions so that s/he is able to anticipate and evaluate control issues and exceptions. S/he must be able to interact with process owners to confirm and solidify his/her understanding of the processes tested; identify and documenting deficiencies; and prepare reports for presentation of findings to the Data Quality Supervisor and other stakeholders.

The Senior Regulatory SOX Specialist must ensure the highest of integrity and control in the internal controls framework; and exercise objective judgment in performing his/her work. The successful execution of a SOX compliance program contributes to BNYM's positive reputation, and enhances the accuracy of BNY Mellon's regulatory reports, while reducing any negative impact to BNYM's reputation with investors, regulators and customers.

Superior oral and written communications skills are required for this role which requires interaction with senior executives; end-to-end GPOs and discrete and functional process owners and their team members; members of the Controllers team, and the Service Management GPO and his/her team. S/he will draw on these skills throughout the course of her work to communicate the framework for Regulatory SOX, to gather additional information about findings and deficiencies from process owners; and to write and/or make presentations to Finance management and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance in the U.S. Degee and recognized accounting qualifications in the UK.

Preferred: MBA or local country equivalent. Finance/Accounting or other relevant degree in the UK.
