Although Russell's manager research process is conducted in a team-oriented environment, it is essential that experienced analysts take individual accountability for the final ranking decision on fixed income products for which they are responsible. Typically a senior analyst at this level will be "rank owner" for a set of products with a significant level of impact on the success of Russell's overall research effort.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
- To raise the level of investment dialogue within IMR, providing sound judgment and provoking thought that influences manager ranks and fund decisions in a positive manner.
- Analysis of money managers, including rank ownership for a major category of investment products.
- Productive, timely, high quality documentation of manager research.
- Mentoring research analysts and substantially influencing the quality of the analysis being conducted by multiple analysts.
- Acting as an investment expert for Russell's client service, funds management, media relations, and consulting efforts.
- Leading important research initiatives within the department.
The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
- University undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Investments or related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- CFA certification strongly preferred.
- Specific experience as a research analyst, portfolio manager with full accountability for manager ranking decisions and/or multi-manager fund decisions preferred
- A proven track record of investment decisions that led to favorable performance
- Deep insight into the success factors and pitfalls of asset management within multiple investment styles or categories
- Thorough knowledge and appropriate skepticism related to financial theories and tools
- Proven ability to represent the firm externally to clients, prospects, managers, media
- Able to argue persuasively for an investment case with appropriate consideration of the opposing view
- Demonstrated ability to improve the level of analysis and dialogue on an investment team
- Knowledge of global bond markets
