Position Summary
Provides direct and indirect nursing patient care as assigned and may provide clinical supervision to unit personnel as assigned                              
Seasonal RN is available to work 36 to 40 hours a week with rotating weekends and works September through May, with June, July and August off.

 
Nursing Care Delivery
Formulates and revises plan of care as indicated by patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness
Involves patient and patient's family when appropriate
Perform a head-to-toe assessment and reassessment per policy on all assigned patients
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate
Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition
Demonstrates the use of critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities in coordinating and supervising patient care
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patient's needs
Completes documentation which reflects current nursing standards and which supports policies and procedures
Manages and operates unit equipment safely and correctly
Demonstrates knowledge of current patient safety goals and policies
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians and co-workers with procedures
Applies knowledge of infection control policies and procedures supporting standards of care
 
Resource Nurse Accountabilities
Completes the shift assignment of staff within the department based upon the skill, experience and temperament of other nursing personnel and the acuity of the patients
Provides direct patient care to assigned patients
Serves as resource on shift to patient care and ancillary staff, and to physicians
Serves as shift liaison on interdepartmental issues
Helps to maintain a safe working environment in compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable regulations, statutes and laws
Works closely with House Supervisor and staffing office to maximize effective patient flow and patient placement on nursing unit
 
Unit Specific Competencies
Ensures IV access on all assigned patients unless otherwise ordered by physician.
Interpret ECG rhythm strip at beginning of shift and be aware of any rhythm changes that occur during shift.
Know current lead placement and ensure correct lead is documented on rhythm strip.
Follow current ACLS guidelines when necessary.
Be able to monitor non-titrated IV medications such as Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem and Natrecor.
Be able to care for patients with arterial and venous sheaths.
Be able to care for eligible telemetry patients such as post myocardial infarction patients, pre/post AICD patients, pre/post permanent pacemaker patients, pre/post electrophysiology studies and/or ablation, pre/post cardio-thoracic surgical patients, pre/post PTCA/cardiac catheterization patients, patients with dysrrhythmias, and congestive heart failure.

Likely interaction with:  Patients, physicians, other clinical and non-clinical staff, patient families
Committee and meeting participation:   Unit staff meetings; other participation as appropriate and required

Position Requirement:
Associates Degree in nursing with a BSN strongly preferred
Required: Four years of RN experience working in a Hospital environment and 2 years experience working in specialty/unit applying for
Licensed RN in the State of Arizona or by start date
BLS ACLS, PALS Certification as required by Unit
Ability to work effectively with computer based charting and other clinical software programs
Adaptability to change, organizational skills    
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
