SENIOR CREDIT ANALYST, CORPORATE AND PROJECT FINANCE

Position Summary

This role is primarily responsible for maintaining quality of the group credit portfolios at required standards, by making sound credit decisions on individual proposals / transactions and minimizing credit losses. Special focus of the candidate will be on his ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate risks in the proposals from the banks wholesale banking. The candidate is required to have the ability to analyze complicated financial statements, cash flow projections and identify risks and mitigants in proposal submitted to Risk management. Managing risk from industry, obligor risk rating and tenor aspects to safeguard the interest of the bank. Candidate should have experience of handling large private, government and semi-government projects (preferably in the GCC countries and /or in Qatar). Candidate will, in due course, be required to be fully knowledgeable of the local Qatar central bank regulations and the banks internal group credit risk policy instructions. Candidate should have had experience in approving jointly and or recommending (preparing a risk analysis memo) cases to higher approving authorities. Accordingly, his decisions could carry a direct, substantial PL contribution in terms of approving and or recommending transactions that meet credit quality standards and minimizing credit losses.

Responsibilities

Approves group credit proposals for the following business lines, within jointly delegated authorities and /or recommends to higher approving levels in compliance with the group risk management policies of the bank:

-Corporate commercial banking customers for all facilities and / or project finance proposals

-Local corporate and contracting proposals

-Financial Institutions

-Treasury

-Investments

-Further GCC and international credits that exceed the local credit committees approval authority

Other Responsibilities

-Assist relationship managers, team leaders and other risk officers in structuring credit lines;

Ensures compliance with all policies, instructions and guidelines (internal or external)

-Assist in reviewing and updating the group credit policy instructions for annual review and approval by the relevant authorities

-Assist in reviewing and updating credit programmes for annual review and approval by the relevant authorities

-Reviewing group portfolio plans, credit programs and risk acceptance criteria for various lending products and providing recommendations to the relevant authorities

-Assist in the timely preparation and submission of consolidated group risk reports to the group chief risk officer and board's compliance risk committee

-Acts as a back-up for the other senior credit analyst and senior members of the credit risk team

-Any other duties assigned by the head of the credit, corporate risk and / or the group chief risk officer.

Technical Skills

The position is highly specialized. Given responsibilities spanning across multiple business lines and geographies the incumbent is expected to have the following capabilities:

-12-15 years of lending experience, including a minimum 8-10 years of experience in jointly approving large credits, independently of credit committees or higher approval levels

-Experience in approving various types of credit transactions and complex structures, including but not limited to: structured credits, project finance, real estate finance, capital markets derivatives transactions, corporate and commercial banking credits and syndicated loans.

-Good understanding of financial institutions risk and experience in approving financial institutions credits

-Good understanding of country and cross-border risk and experience in allocating country limits

-Experience in approving credits in GCC markets in general and Qatar/UAE in particular is preferable

-Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic and French languages is highly desirable

-Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal

-Computer Proficiency

Education

Masters in business administration or equivalent

Key Accountabilities

-Supporting the development of group credit risk policies (in co-ordination with business managers), standards and practises for the approval, ,measurement, reporting, monitoring, managing limits and analysis of risk.

-Developing a credit risk management culture by:

oPromoting good analysis, judgement, flexibility and balance between risk and reward

oRegularly overseeing the banks overall credit approval process through process reviews and assessment of key performance indicators

-Developing an effective partnership with the business on:

oIts strategy and plans to achieve business goals

oEffective communication of the group risk strategy and credit policies and procedures at all levels

-Assist unit heads in defining the portfolio strategies in terms of:

oConcentration parameters considered relevant for the businesses

oApproving Target Market (TM) and Risk Acceptance Criteria (RAC)

-Monitoring actual portfolio against target portfolio and working with business management to ensure that the actual portfolio is driven towards the target portfolio within an agreed time frame.

-Determining 'material' policy exceptions, and requesting the additional approval from relevant authorities

-Establishing risk0reporting requirements
