UBS Financial planning / perforance and analysis – Investment Banking recruitment

The role is within the IB Business Controlling and Reporting area of Finance. The IB BCR team is responsible for providing the MIS financial reporting for the PL of the Investment Bank. Responsibilities include both internal reporting to the IB CEO and Executive Committee, and external reporting to both Corporate Centre, and members of the Group Executive Board, and for inclusion in the published financial report.

The team liaises with senior managers within the Bank, so the ability to build trust and respect from these people is important. We rely on information from a variety of sources, it is important therefore to build networks of key enablers.

Role

The role sits within the Strategic Reporting team, and is principally focused on supporting the 5 year planning process in addition to support on internal and external quarterly reporting requirements.

Key activities will include:

5-Year Strategic Plan/1-Year Operational Plan – responsible for data collection and reporting for the IB 5YSP/1YOP
CEO/CFO Quarterly Review – set-up and maintain financials and presentation material for the quarterly business reviews
Ad hoc analysis in support of the Strategic Reporting team as necessary
Product PL KPI League Tables to be updated and maintained as needed (for Actual periods, forecast and Plan updates)
KPI updates (for Actual periods, forecast and Plan updates) and support of overall KPI /Risk remediation project
Regional reporting development

Skills required
Commitment to get results under pressure and within tight deadlines. An ability to analyse large amounts of data, quickly find the main drivers in the detail, and to present it in a professional manner will be important.

Solid accounting analytical background and some banking industry/product knowledge.

As much of our reporting is high profile, attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality reports under time pressure is key, as is the ability to respond to ad-hoc requests for analysis. To do this you will need to have good analytical skills, logical thinking and be able to resolve issues in a timely manner.

A good overview of the mechanics of accounting ledgers (particularly SAP) and strong Business Objects and Cognos experience, and a strong working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, lookups/getpivot/iserror/match/offset/index formula, basic macros) and knowledge of the other MS Office Applications would be desirable. You need to be able to use all available tools and knowledge to create optimum solutions and answers.

Must possess excellent inter-personal communication skills and are able to promote, leverage and maintain internal/external networks critical for the success of the team. The ability to deal competently and credibly with all levels of management is important.

Must be an advocate of change and innovation, and should strive to find process improvements and promote innovation wherever possible. Must have a proven track record of successful system process improvement and be able to demonstrated understanding of and commitment to procedure development and enhancement.

Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities and change direction without warning when urgent requests arise. The ability to communicate and discuss conflicting deliverables and re-prioritise accordingly is crucial, as is an ongoing commitment to getting work done to a high standard and within prescribed timelines
