Global Fund Services (GFS) is one of the fastest growing business units within Northern Trust and a key service provided from our Melbourne operations. GFS is a top player in the Fund Administration and Investment Operations Outsourcing market globally and culturally combines a highly commercial, entrepreneurial approach with our established and long standing reputation for market leading services dating back over the last 120 years.
THE ROLE
We are currently recruiting for a Operations Manager for our Investment Operations Outsourcing team in Melbourne. The successful applicant will play a key leadership role with full management responsibility for the function including Client Servicing Operations teams.
This role is equally client-facing as it is internally focused as there is ownership for overall service and delivery to the client base in the region. The incumbent will also work in conjunction with the GFS regional business head in executing tasks.
Overall, as Operations Manager, IOO, the job holder will provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages IOO operations through the direct management of a group of staff. Oversees, plans, and directs the activities for the unit and, ensuring that the business objectives are being met.
- Oversees the activities of other units that undertake to IOO processing in the context of a global operating model.
- Develops, implements, and communicates an overall strategy to meet both the business unit's and the corporation’s strategic plan. Directs the activities of the area towards accomplishing those objectives.
- Assumes full accountability for the performance/profitability of the area as compared to the plan. Provides and implements all on-site operational and human resources policies and decisions, in coordination with corporate policies.
- Maintains all necessary customer contact for existing relationships; providing client servicing.
- Plans and sets operating budget and three year budget forecasts.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS
- Excellent people management skills
- Good knowledge of a wide range of investment management middle and back office functions - trade processing and settlements, cash processing, income/corporate actions, data management, valuations and client reporting.
- Working knowledge of derivatives processing and fund accounting is also beneficial
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with various levels in an organization
- Willingness to travel as needed
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- A minimum of 7-10 years operational management experience preferably within the Asset Management/Servicing space.
- Demonstrable experience of building collaborative environments and a strong client service culture
Desirable
- Experience of leading dual operations and client servicing functions within similar environments to those listed above would be advantageous
