Municipal Credit Analyst

Position Description

Morgan Stanley Investment Management is a global provider of superior investment products and services to institutional and individual clients across multiple asset classes. Morgan Stanley Investment Management offers clients a wide range of U.S. Fixed Income and Equity products, as well as a number of Global and Emerging Markets investments and Alternative Asset Classes. The Municipal Credit Analyst will be a member of the Tax-Exempt Liquidity Team. The position will focus on working with Senior Portfolio Managers on credit research for a group of tax-free money market funds. The outstanding candidate is expected to make sector and security recommendations that add value to the overall portfolio management process. This individual will interact daily with Portfolio Managers and Traders to help determine the attractiveness of sectors and individual securities within the overall risk management framework. The position is located in New York.

Key Responsibilities include:
• Determine credit worthiness of tax-exempt money market instruments in the primary and secondary market.
• Monitor portfolios to ensure compliance with SEC Rule 2a-7.
• Establish and maintain internal credit guidelines and limits.
• Oversee organization and maintenance of credit files and supporting documents.
• Interact with rating agencies, broker-dealers, issuers, bond counsels, and other external parties.
• Develop sound working relationships internally and externally; Prepare credit related reports for broader dissemination

Skills Required

• Strong working knowledge of Public Finance and the Municipal Marketplace.
• Minimum five years experience in municipal credit analysis desired.
• Skills in evaluating structured finance a plus.
• BA/BS required, Graduate level Finance / Economics degree preferred.
• Self-motivated, innovative, hard working individual, who can handle changing priorities and multiple tasks in a timely fashion
• Must be a service oriented, team-player eager to assist colleagues and members of the department at all levels
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of Bloomberg
• Outstanding attention to detail and follow-up
• Strong time management/prioritization skills and solid judgment
